Large portion, large range of rice and noodle dishes to choose from, and the matcha dessert is great. You can even taste the quality of the meat, it is fresh, tender and juicy
I used to work around the area. Now I have left the job but I still come back for lunch sometimes. It is delicious, and real family business. Only thing that I have noticed is the sashimi and sushi sizes become smaller.
I was absolute a fan of Yayoi until yesterday we went and I ordered a yayoi genzo bento set which was really DISAPPOINTING . The teriyaki beef was dry and over cooked . Fried chicken was dry and hard. Teriyaki salmon looks like deep fried tofu and dry & favorless. The garden salad was fine. I know sometimes restaurants get busy and cannot control the quality but I don’t recon it’s a good way to keep the business going.
We stopped for some afternoon tea, and staff were more than happy to accommodate this. Each table is set up with an iPad that you self order. You can watch the progress of your order! We just ordered an matcha anmitsu, which is a bit hard to find on Melbourne menus. It was pretty good!
Yayoi is one of my most frequented Japanese restaurant in Sydney CBD and Chatswood. My staples are wagyu sukiyaki or omaze don, so here’s a photo of me trying something different, nasu miso & saba shio yaki (eggplant with sliced pork in miso sauce & salt grilled mackerel).
