One couple shared the seafood platter as a main again this was sensational, perfectly cooked and a very generous serve. The staff were extremely helpful and knew their products well. Good wine list
Dessert was again a tasting plate consisting of a mini creme brulee, a scoop of coconut icecream and a wedge of chocolate brownie. We were all impressed and the attention from entry to table and the
Mains: 1-seafood platter- room temperature natural oysters ( not fresh smelling and too scared to try these), thick battered floury fish, a couple of prawns, chips, smoked supermarket style sliced salmon,
The seafood platter was excellent. The staff are really good - All with “ a serious care factor”. Good wine list. Bottles or wine by the glass. Big island bar with lots of beers on tap. Reasonable pricing
Great setting, great waiter pity about the food...My interstate visitor, a keen sailor, wanted to visits the local sailing club so we headed out there for lunch. The ease and plentiful parking was terrific and I looked forward to a leisurely lunch without the curse of parking inspectors. The setting is lovely overlooking the marina and the very attentive waiter made us very welcome. Drinks were quickly delivered and nice and cold. So we ordered the seafood platter for two at $80 this felt like a good value choice as we were hanging for seafood. On arrival it delighted our eyes - the array was splendid. However it was in the eating were it all started to fall apart. The grilled whiting was not skinned and dry, the scampi likewise, the tartare was from a jar, the chips over-cooked. The calamari, natural oysters and marinated calamari were all passable. To their credit they did offer free dessert and coffee which my friend accepted and did enjoy her balsamic strawberries with vanilla ice-cream (they were out of pistachio) and as I declined $10 was taken from the bill. The wait staff really did save the day - he was pleasant and did what he could to mitigate our disastrous lunch and because of this I'd try them again... maybe on my own though.
TERRIBLE FOOD. After about an hour the kids meals came out and were really good. After about another hour the main meals finally started to arrive. Of 8 main courses only 3 came out to begin with. One was chicken and was so cold it had to be sent back and the other 2 were half way through their meals before the remaining meals were bought out. The beef fillet mignon had barely cooked bacon around it, the mushrooms were raw and the mushroom jus was not a jus but a think black sticky sauce that was also cold. The remaining meals were also barely warm and the ones sent back came out cold for a second time. The steaks that were to be cooked medium were well done. The carrots and broccolini on all plates were hard and barely cooked. The cognac and madagascan peppercorn sauce came out and tasted like a red wine jus. When we told staff this was not what we ordered, they took it away and bought it back with ground pepper on top. The decor was dated and needs updating. The only positive for this restaurant was the fantastic wait staff that were friendly and professional and did their best given the difficult situation they are put in.
Great food but EXTREMELY slow service. We went for Saturday lunch, group of 13 and there were only 2 other small groups in the restaurant. Staff were unclear re. kids menu (none were printed) and said we could have "anything" turned out choices were some what limited upon ordering and the actual meals that came out were slightly different. Entree took over an hour to come out and mains another hour after that. Food was great but children were sick of waiting. So time lag will mean we probably won't go again. Difficult to keep kids happy then you have a 12.30pm booking but don't get mains until 3pm. We rushed the mains and then the kids ice cream came out as we were getting ready to leave, pity staff never let us know kids meals included one!
Could be so much better. We have dined at this restaurant many times over the past several years. Unfortunately it has become increasingly disappointing. We dined on Saturday night with only 10 customers in house, it took 1 and 1/2 hours to get our first and only course. The wait was definitely not worth it. Staff are inexperienced and inattentive. The duck legs with roasted vegetables was obviously precooked commercial duck legs and similar vegetables all thrown in a deep fryer or too hot oven, and cooked to a crisp, vegetables were really burnt and unappetizing, the only fresh thing carrots and broccolini were raw. the date sauce was awful, including hard dried dates (plus stone). The sirloin steak ordered medium rare was cold and raw and of mediocre quality, salad OK but chips placed around the edge of the plate at intervals were also cold. Cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.
Pleasant setting, good value. We've been to Mariners Restaurant a few times in the past year and always had a nice experience. The menus aren't particularly adventurous but what's done is done well and reasonably priced. The Sunday lunch buffet was surprisingly good and we'll definitely return for that. The service staff are very friendly and the drinks list is unexciting but very acceptable. For what it is - basic hospitality service for yacht club members - it's very good and shamefully under-ultilised judging from our visits. Maybe they're all out sailing... Their loss! Recommended, 7 out of 10.
